Rosalind Tallmadge

Rosalind Tallmadge (b. 1987) is an American artist based in Brooklyn, New York, whose luminous, richly textured paintings explore the relationship between material, light, nature, and the body. Working with unconventional materials such as mica, silk, sequins, glass beads, pumice, volcanic ash, and metal leaf, she creates reflective surfaces that shift with the viewer’s position and the surrounding light. Her practice expands the traditions of monochrome and Color Field painting by introducing materials historically associated with decoration, fashion, and femininity. Tallmadge’s works evoke geological formations, celestial landscapes, and atmospheric phenomena, balancing an ethereal beauty with a distinctly physical presence. She received her BFA from Indiana University and her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, and her work has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and internationally. Her notable projects include a series of monumental, site-specific paintings commissioned for the historic rotunda at Opus One Winery in Napa Valley.
