Marina Nimmo (b. 1971) is a British artist living in South West France. Inspired by the dynamic forces of seasons, rivers, and tides, her practice explores the continual transformation of the natural world through intricately hand-built ceramic sculptures.
Each work begins with spontaneous, energetic drawings that evolve into fluid three-dimensional forms. Constructed by hand and meticulously refined as the clay reaches its leather-dry stage, Nimmo's sculptures undergo a gradual process of reduction, transforming seemingly weighty forms into delicate, organic structures that appear almost impossibly light. Through this intensive dialogue with clay, Nimmo explores the tension between strength and fragility. Her sculptures invite contemplation of the delicate balance between permanence and change, reflecting the quiet resilience of the environments that inspire her practice.
After a sixteen-year career as an art educator, she completed an MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London, in 2017.
